Irrigating Your Faith Workshop
Conversing on ideal faith ideology vs. the reality of faith that we face on a daily basis.  Everyone got to share their comparisons.  I asked for one observations.  Below are some words that were spoken about both ideal faith and the realities of faith.

Ideal Faith

Happy
Complete
Lush
Abundant
Fruitful
Light is all encompassing
Community
Centered
Calm
Watered
Colorful
Hopeful
Concrete imagery

Reality of Faith

Some words from the Realities of Faith:
Darker
Less colorful
Distorted
Lack of clarity and consistency
Higher contrast
Separation (more white space in comparison to the ideal faith)
Less healthy
Shadows
Higher walls
Smudges
Imperfect
Chaotic, less organized and structured
More abstract

This workshop was an open conversation about faith and prayer.  There weren't any concrete answers.  no right or wrong answers.  Through the activity we all were able to see the realities we face daily.  The visuals speak for themselves.  Each word said helped us learn from one another and impacted how we perceive our faith. 

My hope for those who came to my workshop is that through the activity they were able to gain an ability to use visual language to help them flourish in their journey of faith.

Roosevelt Middle School: Compton Initiative Workday

This past weekend was our last workday of the year for Compton Initiative.  We were at Roosevelt Middle School and Compton High. Thousands of volunteers came out to repaint the entire school's exterior, and a about 200 volunteers came to paint and boldly brighten up Roosevelt's campus with 3 murals.  Thanks to the entire leadership team; these days never happen without you.  Kudos for finishing the year off strong as our lieutenants and leaders.  Check out what we did on Saturday October 15, 2011.in the mural department. I personally had the privilege to re-vectorize the school pledge, and design the We Are Roosevelt Mural.  Thank you to my clean-up artists: Ruthy and Audra.!!! Pin the Wattle on the Turkey

Pin the Wattle on the Turkey Game Poster, 2' by 3', digital illustration I was asked to do poster for a game for a preschool in Cerritos, CA.back in November 2011. They wanted something that was a spin off of Pin the Tail on the Donkey.  BUT...since it was Thanksgiving they wanted a turkey.  At first we were thinking of tail feathers; it was a better concept that it was the wattle.  It is silly, and different. I chose to use modern autumn palette.  I wanted the poster to look friendly, subtle, refreshing, and clean.  I've seen several fun cartoon turkeys, but it was a bit much.  This is what I was able to come up with.  The poster is 24" by 36"  and in full color. The kids really enjoyed the game.

#4. Deep Blue

Deep Blue, 9 in. by 12 in., watercolor, 02/14/2019 I totally missed the last week of the creative challenge I set out for this year.  I thought to continue on rather than look back and dwell on the fact that I missed a week already. This week has been tough playing catch up to all the structured responsibilities that I have.  Traveling out of town two weeks in a row was really fun and awesome, but it did take quite a bit of effort and energy.  Not to include that there have been some hard conversations and quite a bit of transitions on the team that I work with at my part-time job. I needed to sit and paint to let loose and let go of all that structure.  All the tension, worries, and "suppose to" went into letting the water and colors work on my behalf. Deep blue • flood • running river • flow • calm storm • abstract • letting go • defender • love is war • oceans • move • let justice flow • mercy • grace • waves : these were all the words that came to mind.
