Picasso once said, “The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web.”

Congratulations Ted and Eunice!
May you continually grow and be deeply rooted in your new home.
This past weekend was our last workday of the year for Compton Initiative. We were at Roosevelt Middle School and Compton High. Thousands of volunteers came out to repaint the entire school's exterior, and a about 200 volunteers came to paint and boldly brighten up Roosevelt's campus with 3 murals. Thanks to the entire leadership team; these days never happen without you. Kudos for finishing the year off strong as our lieutenants and leaders. Check out what we did on Saturday October 15, 2011.in the mural department. I personally had the privilege to re-vectorize the school pledge, and design the We Are Roosevelt Mural. Thank you to my clean-up artists: Ruthy and Audra.!!! We Are Roosevelt Lions Roar 600 foot Wall of Color! Typically, this is what a typical workday looks like: Another workday accomplished!!! Koi Pond, 16 in. X 20 in., acrylic on canvas, April, 2019 I know it seems like I’ve slacked on the 52 week creative challenge, but trust me. I’ve been painting every week this year. I have to wait patiently before I can post the ones from the last month and half. This week I went with my big sis Alma to a paint night hosted by Color Your World Designs! My first paint night that I have participated in. Usually, I am the host/facilitator. It was so neat to be on the other side of participation. It was very relaxing and a really great way to get my arms moving in a wider range. Paint night was at a small sushi restaurant in Compton called Kumi Ko! Sushi and paint, two of my favorite things in this world. The sushi and tempura was really fresh and on point. The staff was wonderful and hospitable. Their vegetable tempura was extra fresh! I was informed that they source some of their vegetables locally from...
I've been making woven paper fish to prepare for an activity I will be hosting next week. We're going to be making fishing line bookmarks. The bookmarks will be a reminder about our communities and this quote: "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for life." Part of this project is also cultural. In Pacific Asian countries it is very common to find weaving and crafts with palm or coconut fronds. Here are the two tutorial videos that I used as my references. Woven Paper Fish Tutorial from azulchromis Woven Palm Frond Fish I didn't have a paper trimmer so i used an Exact-o knife and scissors to cut the strips from DCWV Border Stack Textured Yardstick Brights This was really good training for cutting straight lines, but after all the paper i cut, for efficiency I will be investing in to a scrapbook paper trimmer from Fiskar. For the large fish I used 12 in. x 3/8 in. strips. For the small fish, I cut the exi...
